Contaminants

The Environmental Protection Agency claims that indoor air is up to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air. Indoor air quality (IAQ) commonly refers to the quality of the air we breathe in our homes and offices. There are many factors that affect the IAQ in our homes and offices. Any unwanted substance in your HVAC system that can have a negative health consequence is considered a contaminant. Contaminants can be organic or inorganic, airborne, biological, or a member of the fungi plant group. Airborne smokes, pet hair and dander, cooking vapors, pollens/molds from outdoors, airborne fabric and carpet fibres, and molds and mildews from within are just a few of the many contaminants which impact our IAQ.

The CitrusWow! “Source Removal” service can significantly improve your IAQ. Contaminants can be removed, filtration systems can be upgraded, and your HVAC system maintains energy efficiency.

Source Removal

There are several ways to clean your HVAC system, just as there are many different price ranges. The method of cleaning recommended by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) is “Source Removal” cleaning. Source Removal cleaning employs various tools to loosen dirt and debris. These tools may be brushes made of nylon or silica, whips or compressed air washing, or manual vacuuming. But these tools remove very little of the unwanted contaminants if a very important second part of the cleaning method is not employed. STATIC PRESSURE must be created.

Mold Treatment

Mold in and around the home has been in the news more and more lately. Where the heat and humidity cause their own special set of unique problems, the control of house mold through effective house mold treatments are essential for healthy indoor air quality. Household molds can be caused for many reasons, but usually involves water intrusion in some form or another. Mold growth in your home should be dealt with immediately due to the possible toxicity and adverse health reactions involved. Mold is usually not a problem indoors unless mold spores land on a damp surface and begin multiplying, called amplification. One possible area of dampness are the air conditioning ducts that operate in a high humidity environment. These spores combine and multiply with the dust, dirt and moisture in the system and then are distributed throughout the home or office via the duct vents. These molds have the potential to cause a variety of health problems. Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions), irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins). Indoor air quality problems associated with molds can be part of what is referred to as “sick house syndrome” and can be linked to health problems such as:

  • Headaches
  • Watery eyes
  • Nausea
  • Chills and Fever
  • Skin disorders
  • Fatigue

Static Pressure

STATIC PRESSURE truly defines why Source Removal cleaning is the method of choice. As the dirt, debris, and contaminants are loosened from the interior of your air handling system, a large machine with reverse incline motors is quickly removing the contaminants. In order to create the necessary suction, your system is subjected to a strong negative or “static” pressure to remove unwanted contaminants, such as mold and pet dander.
